Quarter Horse racing
Shortly after the founding of Jamestown in 1607, started Quarter Horse racing in North America. In 1940 was founded the american quarter horse Registry and so begin the registration of the Quarter Horse as a breed. Now it is the world's largest horse registry. american quarter horses have been called Americas Fastest Athlete, they can reach speeds uo to 55 mph.
The american quarter horse is the first United States native horse breed. Foundation american quarter horse stock resulted from Arab, Turk and Barb breeds. The breed evolved from the mix of bloodlines of horses brought to the New World. This combination of selected mares and stallions with horses brought from Ireland and England resulted in a compact, heavily muscled horse that evolved to fill the colonist's passion for short-distance racing.
The bloodlines of american quarter horses have been perfected since the american quarter horse association was created, to produce a versatile and high quality animal. American quarter horses are allowed only limited white markings below the knees and on the face to be identified as a real american quarter horse.The colors accepted for the breed are bay, black, brown, buckskin, chestnut, dun, red dun, gray, grullo, palomino, red roan and blue roan and the most prominent, reddish brown. The official gray color is usually called white, but there aren't really any "white" american quarter horses.
